Overview
During the summer of 2023 we were delighted to offer 'Art For Change' an Arts Council Northern Ireland (ACNI) funded programme for 25 youth with our 2 community partner organisations. Art For Change was part of the globally awarded Design For Change (DFC) movement, enabling children and youth to take action on issues affecting them. The DFC movement founded by Kiran Bir Sethi at the Riverside School in India, now present in + 70 countries is a winner of numerous education accolades. Design For Change Northern Ireland was launched in 2022.
The youth were supported by multidisciplinary artist, Juanita Rea and the following artists: Singer-songwriter Siobhan Brown; Musicians, Facilitators Paul Kane and Cameron Gibson; Musician, Producer Phil D'Alton; Singer, Facilitator Kelly Smiley; Poet, Writer, Facilitator Nandi Jola; Spoken Word Artist, Frank Rafferty; Performing Artist Mary McGurk and Visual Artists Stephanie Arnold; Halima Aden, and Ayah Aljunaid.
Local Outputs
Our programme ran from July 15th and culminated in a showcase event on 12th August at the Oh Yeah Music Centre where had 7 youth groups from our community partners take to the stage to share their stories of change.
Global Offshoots
We were delighted to share 3 projects at the I CAN Summit, Ahmedabad, India, Dec 2 - 3, 2023, which is part of our series of annual global celebrations, bringing together leaders from across the world since 2012. Deconstructing Malignant Misogyny and Stop Cyberbullying were selected to represent Northern Ireland while A Sectarian Free World was selected to represent Sudan.
